Next SDCFOA Board Meeting – Wednesday March 29, 6:30 pm at Calvin Christian High School in Escondido. The meeting is open to all who attend, but you may need to “step out” for any closed session items dealing with personnel issues.
Recruiting and Retention Committee Needs a New Chair! - The recruiting committee reports that there have been 72 contacts by interested persons. We hope this translates into a huge first year class. Gary Gittelson and the committee have done a remarkable job of attracting new officials, unfortunately Gary needs to relocate to Florida to be with his father who is dealing with some new health issues. If anyone would like to “give back” to the SDCFOA this is one of the most important areas an official could demonstrate his/her leadership skills. Please feel free to respond to anyone on the Board including our officers: Ed Zapolski, Tom Ables, Terry Thompson, or myself, Steve Coover.
First College Meeting Date and Location – If you are an experienced high school official, whose ratings are toward the upper third of our association, you might consider joining our NCAA group. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, May 23rd at 6:30 pm at the Torrey Pines High School Lecture Hall near their gymnasium toward the back of the school. Crew Chief Retirements – Due to a variety of reasons, we are losing some of our best crew chiefs and we will sorely miss their leadership and officiating skills: Gary Gittelson – Moving to Florida to help with father’s health Tyler Lindsay – Work and family commitments are too extensive at this time. He will be available to fill in. Garrett Haislip – New work requirements and too many NCAA travel requirements Tony Shaw – Again, family and work requirements have escalated Ed Zapolski – True retirement. Many years of exemplary service to the SDCFOA Joe Magnuson – Hired as a replay official in the PAC12! The Crew Chief Selection Committee has met and the Board will be announcing the new crew chiefs immediately after the meeting.
