Weekly Bull 12/15/18

The following bulletin is from Steve Coover - Happy Holidays SDCFOA!

A recent Arbiter Email went out from me offering you a chance to complete a survey for the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS).  That survey is an important tool for the national committee (of which I am a member) to get feed back on recent rule changes and topics for future rule changes.  I did not write an introduction when I forwarded it to you, so please do take the time to complete that survey!  Thank you!

Congratulations to all San Diego Teams and Officials for a great week of SoCal Regional Championship Football.
Our own SDCFOA crew of Scott Countryman, Jay Drewry, Ollon Carter, David Hardage, Tyler Lindsay, Jace Carlson and Joe Magnuson worked an outstanding game in which San Diego HS came back from a 24-7 halftime deficit against Linfield Christian from Temecula to win 42-31 and go on to the CA State Championships.  The crew was outstanding and represented the SDCFOA at the highest level possible!  Thanks, guys! The only San Diego official working CA State Championship Game this week will be Mike Duggan -Saturday December 8th - Concord De La Salle at Mater Dei at Cerritos College in Cerritos, CA at 8:00 pm.  This is the Open Division Championship Game and we're all pulling for Mike and the crew to be the best team on the field!

At the Junior College LevelTony Sands and Greg Covington will be working the CA State JC Championship Game between Ventura College and Laney College on Saturday December 8th at 1:00 pm at Sacramento City College.

Joe Greene – Congratulations to Joe Greene for being assigned to work the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship Game last Saturday where Alcorn State defeated Southern University 37-28.

Jake Minger Retires -  Congratulations to Jake Minger on an amazing career as an official in our association and we hope you enjoy your extra time with your wife and family!  The Board is working to fill the vacancy at treasurer, and that announcement will be coming out soon.  Thank you, Jake, for all of your outstanding work as our money guy!  You did a great job helping us stay in a strong financial position and to lead us in the creation of our San Diego Youth Football Fund.  You have created quite a brilliant legacy for yourself!

Additional Thank You Notes:

Rick Christensen, Mark Lindsay, and Greg Covington – For providing great leadership to the association.  Between the 3 of you we’ve grown and stretched our association’s reputation as the best nationally.  Thank you!

Brian Bortness, Terry Bernard, Jimmy Christensen, and Mark Lindsay – For your three years of service to the Board of Directors of our Association.  Your extra time and effort has keep us on the right path and helped us to initiate new ideas and programs into our already powerful operating procedures. Thank you! PS – Mark will be staying on the board, per association constitution, for one additional year – pray for us - LOL

Mike Andrews, Jon Cima, John McDade, Dave Garza, Scott Carrol, Mike Duggan, Kevin Haws, and Matt Starr – Thank you to all of the continuing board members for their dedication to our association and representation of our membership!  And special welcome to our newest members of the board of directors: Bob Flavin, Terry Bernard (he’s back!), Brandon Chavez, and Zack Marble.

Tom Ables – For another great year of assigning – I don’t know why anyone would want that job!

Ed Zapolski – For always knowing our Constitution and By-Laws and holding us to them – even when we cry like babies!

Don Carey – For always being there for feedback and guidance and support for all of us!

Earl Totty, Tyler Lindsay, Jeff Phillips, Don Carey, Ed Blick, Jimmy Christensen, Ed Zapoolski, Zack Marble, Jay Drewry, Kevin Haws, Robin House, Dave Garza, Mike Downing, Gary Gittelson, David Sibbet, Mike Lemieux, Mike Duggan and Brian Bortness, our Pop Warner Crew Chiefs plus our High School Crew Chiefs – For serving as instructors both in the classroom and on the field this year.  Without the leadership of these individuals, especially that of our pop warner and high school crew chiefs, we’d never be able to teach near the level that our instructional program requires.  George Schutte would be proud of you all!

Program Evaluation – Ooops – we/I forgot to offer the members our annual survey during the last meeting of the year.  It is an important opportunity for our leadership (Board and Officers) to receive feedback on how we did this year, and to solicit suggestions for specific areas we could improve.  If you’d like to offer a criticism or specific suggestions - Please email Rick Christensen and he will collect and provide the feedback to our board and officers with TOTAL CONFIDENTIALITY.
