Example 11-3:
Third and 10 for Team A at Team B's 40 yard line. A21 advances to Team B's 35 yard line where he is downed. After the ball is dead (a) B52 unnecessarily knocks down A77 and A73 retaliates with a hard shove, or (b) A56 unnecessarily knocks down B50 and B66 retaliates with a hard shove.
RULING:
In (a), the penalty for B52's foul is first enforced to Team B's 20 yard line where Team A is awarded a first down. The penalty for A73's foul is then enforced back to Team B's 35 yard line, first and 10 for Team A.
In (b), the penalty for A56's foul is first enforced back to the fifty yard line. The penalty for B66's foul returns the ball to Team B's 35 yard line where it will be fourth and five for Team A.
