First/General Meeting One Month Away – Wednesday, July 6th at 7:00 pm at Mira Mesa High School. We will be meeting in the Theater as a whole Association so we can get reports from all of the officers and make important presentations. The Theater is located in the center of the campus and clearly marked. Kits will be available for pick up starting at 6:00 pm.
Recruit – Last report was that we have 15 1st year officials which is about normal. But now we need a huge final push to get new membership. It’s the perfect time get new members to sign up just prior to our first meeting! Thank you for all of your efforts. And if you want to help Gary Gittelson and the recruiting committee, just reach out to Gary at recruiting@sdcfoa.org. He needs volunteers!
Radio Talk Button Worn on Your Belt – From Matt Starr: I do not know if you have heard of Zebra O2O Comms. It’s a small company founded by an official and they developed a Midland headset with a push to talk button that is placed on the belt like they have in D1 and NFL. I purchased a couple and used it a few months ago during a Enforcers game and it worked great. I thought this might be something that you might be interested in and/or would like to pass along to the rest of the association in a future bull. The website is below. - Matt
Chris Coyte (PAC12 Referee) Zoom Presentation - I am excited to announce that we’ve been invited to attend a zoom presentation by Chris Coyte. It will take place on Wednesday June 22nd at 6:30pm. He will be discussing the use of preliminary signals, foul reporting by members of the crew to the Referee and Referee foul reporting to the press box. Every official from first year officials to long time veterans we'll learn something at this meeting. A special thanks to the Orange County Officials Association for inviting us to attend.
If you are not familiar with Chris, He began working youth football in Orange County and rose through high school, junior college and finally a Back Judge in the PAC-12 in 2012. He then was selected to be a Referee in 2014. He was the Referee for the 2020 National Championship Game between Clemson and LSU with Clay Reynard Jr. on his crew, and also refereed the 2021 Cotton Bowl; the PAC-12 Championships in 2018 and 2020; and, has had eight other postseason assignments.
